Brother And Sister Bedroom Ideas

Jonathan Scott wants you think about a lot of things in the bedroom ...

But when Scott (the carpenter behind HGTV's Property Brothers and brand ambassador for Stearns & Foster) says he's going to give us all some bedroom advice, he's talking about what we can do to make our sleeping space more restful and relaxing. After all, he's a professional. And we have to say, his advice makes a lot of sense and our REM cycle would probably appreciate it, too. Check out five things Scott wants you to think about when it comes to your sacred space.

1. Where you put your desk in the room.

Well, he'd actually remove it from your bedroom altogether if he had his way. His reason? Since this space is for sleeping (not working), including office furniture is a huge mistake and will hurt your quality of sleep: "It should be all about relaxing," he told Parade.

2. How much you pay on upscale style.

Scott swears you don't have to spend your life savings for that luxury vibe. "Behind the bed we'll usually put something like beautiful wallpaper or reclaimed wood that can add that wow-factor as soon as you walk in," he told PopSugar.

3. The way you choose your wall color.

Listen, just because red is your favorite color doesn't mean it should go on your walls — at least, according to this Property Brother. "Psychologists say red is one of the worst colors to have in the bedroom, because it creates a more hostile environment," he says. Fair enough.

4. The overhead lighting.

Let's just say, Scott is not a fan of florescent ceiling fixtures. "I like to have a beautiful fixture and, when I have a budget, recessed lighting on dimmers for ambient lighting," he says. This sets a relaxing tone for the sleeping space in your home.

5. The quality of your bedding.

Since the bed is the most important thing in your room, what you put on it is just as critical — so make sure you go for super soft sheets. "Everything in the bedroom should be about relaxing and not worrying about what time it is," he says.

6. The clutter situation.

"One of the things that will destroy a relaxing vibe in the bedroom is if there's clutter everywhere," Scott says. He recommends investing in trays that slide under your bed to create more storage and buying a nightstand with drawers.

7. Your mattress — if you're not happy with it.

No, you don't have to pick between firm and soft. Jonathan says he likes something in the middle — and wants you to know you can have both, too! "If it's too soft it gives me a sore back," he says. "If it's too firm, you just don't want to jump into it and it doesn't feel loungy."
